Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries together with USAID SEA Project launched marine spatial geoportal titled ‘’SEANODE’’, a web-based online portal which integrated with the RZWP-3-K (marine spatial plan) data and information management system. The launched was conducted coincident with National Coordination Meeting led by Directorate General of Marine Spatial Planning, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF), in Bogor, 30th January 2019.
SEANODE is an online geoportal system that provides relevant data and information on the marine spatial planning (MSP) across Indonesian provinces as a result of a scientific, collaborative, transparent, and integrated process. This cutting-edge geoportal is an innovation for the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) led technology-based system for the development and implementation of MSP in the three provinces of Maluku, North Maluku, and West Papua. Stakeholders will benefit from a built-up open-source, fully non-commercial services using a three-tier architecture client-server. Immersing interactive maps and light portal access through desktop and mobile application will accommodate user queries exploring multiple purposes from biodiversity to potential investment, or boosting the local economies at designated sites.
SEANODE MSP Geoportal Online System is a decision support tool, as a mechanism of long-term foundation in a way of achieving strategic marine planning development and implementation stage. Today marked an important day where MMAF invites 34 Provincial Government and National MSP task force which are Ministry of National Development Planning, Coordinating Ministry of Marine Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs and Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and other relevant stakeholders. SEANODE system is an authorized platform of marine planning geoportal system to support “One Map Policy Geoportal” that has been recently released by Joko Widodo, Indonesian President. SEANODE MSP Geoportal Online, will be expected to drive a policy implication of a) legal basis for the portal b) budget allocation and c) dedicated of staff resources to manage and maintain its sustainability.
Mr. Suharyanto, the Director of Marine Spatial Planning, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries said that ‘’Development of SEANODE can minimize potential conflicts on marine spatial use in the future and mitigate disaster response. The optimal use of this geoportal will benefit the local government in developing and promoting regional potential while maintaining efforts in marine conservation and sustainable fisheries’’.
On this occasion, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries invited 34 provincial governments and National MSP task force composed of Ministry of National Development Planning, Coordinating Ministry of Marine Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs and Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and other relevant stakeholders. SEANODE system serves as an authorized platform which supports “One Map Policy Geoportal” declared by President Joko Widodo. In the future, the implementation of innovative decision support tool like SEANODE should be able to be repurposed for use globally. This launch includes a live demo of the SEANODE portal, its spatial data sharing ability, the online and interactive user’s forum, its online mapping performance and the ability to track the current regulation status of MSP by province.
